Pitches: How to Submit Story Ideas

Quick reference: navigation guide

Freelancers can pitch editors story concepts (i.e. an idea before writing or designers occurs)

Create Pitch:

1) Click the "Create Project" button at the top left of your screen.

2) Enter the title of your project and the description.

3) Click the "Next" button.

4) Type the name of your editor you want to pitch in the "Approver" field and select from the drop down list.

5) Enter your fee. Note: Ebyline does not determine the fee of a project. The fee is negotiated between you and the editor you are working with.

6) Select project completion date. This is the date you can have the project completed and ready for purchase.

7) Click the "Submit" button. You will be prompted to agree to the terms by checking both boxes and clicking "Accept".

8) Your pitch has been sent to your editor and is now waiting for them to take action.

Attach Files:

1) Click the 'Edit Project" button.

2) Click the "Files" navigation link.

3) Click the "Add File" button to upload assets (i.e. press releases or images)

4) Click the "Save Changes" button.

Add Expenses:

1) Click the 'Edit Project" button.

2) Click the "Expenses" navigation link.

3) Check the box labeled "Allow Expenses" and submit the pitch.

4) Click the "Add Expense" button and enter a description.

5) Click the "Save Changes" button.

Note: at any time during the negotiation process, if an editor unchecks the "Allow Expenses" box you will not be able to include expenses with that project.

Pitch Status:

- Accepted: if your pitch is accepted, the pitch becomes an Active Project. This means the terms of the pitch are finalized and it's time to start working on your project.

- Countered: if an editor counter-offers the terms of your pitch, you have the opportunity to either accept the Editor's terms or to counter-offer with new terms.

- Declined: if an editor declines the terms of your pitch or counter-offer, your pitch will be available for you to re-submit to a different editor.

Change Editor:

Before an editor takes action on the pitch (accepts, counter-offers, or declines), you can cancel the negotiation. Use this feature to submit your pitch to a different editor.

1) Select the pitch from the List Rail.

2) Click the "Cancel Negotiation" button.

3) Enter the reason for the cancellation.

4) Click on "View People".

5) Select the 'x' next to the Approver and enter a new name and click the "Save" button.

Delete Pitch:

Use this when the editor hasn't taken action on a pitch and you want to close the project without sending it to a different editor.

1) Select the pitch from the List Rail.

2) Click the "Cancel Negotiation" button.

3) Enter the reason for the cancellation.

4) Click the Options button (gear with drop down arrow), located at the top left side of the project status bar.
